Cynthia Gumbert has been CMO of SmartBear since May 2019, growing the marketing organization to help enable the company to continue growing quickly and profitably. She is an industry-recognized marketing and business leader known for both transformation and leading marketing at some of the most innovative technology companies.
Gumbert’s’s marketing strategy includes a significant and highly planned “not even near the funnel” investment that has tremendous impact on the company’s growth. SmartBear software quality tools are used by 16 million developers, testers and operations engineers at more than 32,000 organizations worldwide. Selling to software developer teams means the company doesn’t market altogether in the traditional sense. Gumbert has built a very non-traditional team, growing from 26 to 60 people over the past three years. The company’s diverse marketing team includes a software development team creating product trial experiences, developer evangelists, technical and open-source community leaders, an “academy” leader and a storyteller. They sit alongside traditional growth, international, channel marketing, product marketing and brand leadership.
Under Gumbert’s leadership, SmartBear products have been well recognized. In the last year, ReadyAPI was awarded “Best in API Infrastructure” by API World for playing a leading role in the growth of the API economy. SwaggerHub was the winner of the “2022 IoT Development Tool of the Year Award” in the annual IoT Breakthrough Awards for the second year in a row. ReadyAPI and TestComplete were TrustRadius top-rated functional testing products in 2022.
